I'm just a fat gal with a blog and an opinion. Well, lots of opinions.

TFIF: Notlueatall’s New Music Finds!

January29

Wow! It’s been quite a long time since I did a new music post. Finding new music is something I love to do, but it takes time and that is something I don’t have a lot of these days. But fear not my lovelies! I shall do my best from this day forward to post more frequently on all topics, but especially MUSIC!

Girls: A couple of easy-going, rockin’ dudes making good tunes for a decent day! (Okay, that’s just my impression.) Wiki: Girls is an indie rock band from San Francisco, California. The band’s lead singer, Christopher Owens, is a former member of the Children of God cult. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girls_(band)

Album – Girls

Hotrats: (Wiki:) is a cover band formed by Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey as a side-project from their main band Supergrass. The band is named after Frank Zappa‘s album Hot Rats. The duo have recorded a set of covers with producer Nigel Godrich for a forthcoming album entitled Turn Ons in the vein of David Bowie‘s Pin Ups released in 2010. They have performed a short UK tour which included the Reading and Leeds Festivals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hot_Rats

Turn Ons – Hotrats

Galt Aureus: we’re a rock band. But you’ve never heard anything like us before. (From their facebook page…love it!) Piano flourishes in a big-rock song? Yes, please! =0)

Citadels – Galt Aureus

The Avett Brothers: Low-key but solid! (from Lala.com:) The Avett Brothers () are a folk-rock band from Concord, North Carolina. The band is made up of two brothers, Scott Avett and Seth Avett, who play the banjo and guitar respectively, and Bob Crawford who plays the stand-up bass. They are often joined on tour by cellist Joe Kwon. Risen from the ashes of Seth and Scott’s former rock band Nemo, the Avett Brothers combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk, and ragtime to produce a sound described by the San Francisco Chronicle as having the “heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones.

I And Love And You – The Avett…

Retribution Gospel Choir: Y’all know how much I love a driving rythm! (from Lala.com & Wiki:) is a band based out of Duluth, MN that plays short, driving songs that often start out poppy melodic and then turn into psychedelic improvisations and drum and bass-heavy dub. Current members of the band include, Alan Sparhawk (guitar, vocals, sampler), Steve Garrington (bass), whom are both also in the band Low, and Eric Pollard (drums, vocals). Until 2008, Matt Livingston played bass for the band.

So, tell me what you think! Have you heard these before? Do you like them? Give me a theme, Darlings and I will run with it next week!

The Lady Has Arrived…

In case you missed Lady Gaga’s appearance on Oprah recently (like I did) I have posted it here for your viewing pleasure! Now if you just want the performance (medly from “Fame Monster”) it’s the last video clip, but I must warn you, as much as I love me some Gaga, this was not her best performance. It seemed something was off from the start of it, but she’s fabulous, so no worries!

2010: Pay It Forward!

January7

Last year my dear friend J dubbed 2009 the year of firsts. Boy, he couldn’t have hit the nail on the head harder! Whew! What a friggin’ year?! This time last year I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life. I maybe had the first sign of an idea about possibly maybe opening a café…little did I know! Ha! Bit it truly was an exciting year.

This year my dear friend P has dubbed 2010 the year of paying it forward. As in doing random acts of kindness and when one is done for you, you must pay it forward threefold (yes, just like the movie). I would also like to continue the theme of firsts because I feel like there are just too many things in the world I’ve yet to experience or do and so I’ll stick to that as well. But I’m all about paying it forward, too!

I am quite fond of this new trend J started last year of giving it a theme. No resolutions needed, wanted or required. And last year at this time believe me when I say that my prospects were slim. Now look at me! Okay, I’m not rolling in dolla-bills or roses, but I’m on my way to independence, baby and there is nothing sweeter than that!

With last year’s theme I was able to completely change how I make decisions. I used to of course weigh the pros and cons of any endeavor or purchase. Constantly doing some sort of research on something because I had the time (I was unemployed) was comfortable making “informed” decisions. Now? Well, now I fly by the seat of my pants every day and give little thought to all of the possible ways it could fail. Where has it gotten me? I started my own business, signed a killer lease and found a community in a town I knew nothing about. I’ve made friends and done things I never would have done before.  Last year I was full of anxieties and fears, but this year I am full of excitement and overall joy.

I’m not saying this is just the end all be all thing to do, but it has worked out just swell for me.

Here’s To A Fun & Fabulous 2010!!!

January3

I am so sorry that I have left you all alone for so long. You must know that it isn’t by choice. I love writing this blog! No, it’s simply a matter of priorities and boy have we all been busy lately! Whew! But now that it’s a new year I would love to share with you what I bought myself for a musical treat! (with the help of a gift card from a friend).

Please, don’t forget that you can listen to anything on Lala.com for free, all the way through, once! And purchased music downloads directly to your iTunes and if often much cheaper, too! =0)                                                                         (It takes only the creation of a password really, to join! FREE!)

The Fame Monster – Lady GaGa

La Roux – La Roux

xx – The xx

Unfortunately some of my recent purchases aren’t on Lala.com, but I am loving Pearl Jam’s “Backspacer” album and have fallen back in love with them overall! BellX1 hs a unique and lovely sound (and Irish boys, to boot!).

I hope you all had a lovely NYE! I did and have been inspired by happenstance…again! Cheers to you all! Stay healthy and safe, y’all!  =0)

Notblueatall’s TFIF Music List: Sad Songs Say So Much

October16

Even though it’s Friday, I’m a bit down. But I do love a good-sad song! So that’s what this list is about, my fave sad songs! Woot!

“Perfect Day” Lou Reed: This song was featured quite prominantly in the film, “Trainspotting.” And it just so happens to be my fave movie of all time. Yeah, seriously!

Perfect Day – Lou Reed

“In The Arms of Sleep” Smashing Pumpkins: I don’t know if this was intended to be the saddest song in the f-ing universe (to me anyhow), but I have spent much time with this song on repeat with a broken heart.  Wow! TMI? My bad. Great song though.

In The Arms Of Sleep – Smashin…

“I’ll Stand By You” The Pretenders: This song always chokes me up. For good reasons and bad, it’s just touching and tender but hints at the dark sides in all of us, too.

I’ll Stand By You – The Preten…

“The Rose” Bette Midler: OMZ! My friend J sings this so well! I always ball my face off when he does it at karaoke! Oh, mah, gawd! Sad song, so beautiful and sweet…and super sad. *sigh*

The Rose – Bette Midler

“Maybe This Time” from Cabaret: Again, dude, seriously? When J does this song, he gets a little catch in his throat at the right moment (what an actor!) and honestly, it kills me every time! It’s a great song. It’s something I think we’ve all felt at some point.

Maybe This Time – Liza Minnell…

What are your fave sad songs?
