I'm just a fat gal with a blog and an opinion. Well, lots of opinions.

TFIF: Notlueatall’s New Music Finds!

January29

Wow! It’s been quite a long time since I did a new music post. Finding new music is something I love to do, but it takes time and that is something I don’t have a lot of these days. But fear not my lovelies! I shall do my best from this day forward to post more frequently on all topics, but especially MUSIC!

Girls: A couple of easy-going, rockin’ dudes making good tunes for a decent day! (Okay, that’s just my impression.) Wiki: Girls is an indie rock band from San Francisco, California. The band’s lead singer, Christopher Owens, is a former member of the Children of God cult. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girls_(band)

Hotrats: (Wiki:) is a cover band formed by Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey as a side-project from their main band Supergrass. The band is named after Frank Zappa‘s album Hot Rats. The duo have recorded a set of covers with producer Nigel Godrich for a forthcoming album entitled Turn Ons in the vein of David Bowie‘s Pin Ups released in 2010. They have performed a short UK tour which included the Reading and Leeds Festivals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hot_Rats

Galt Aureus: we’re a rock band. But you’ve never heard anything like us before. (From their facebook page…love it!) Piano flourishes in a big-rock song? Yes, please! =0)

The Avett Brothers: Low-key but solid! (from Lala.com:) The Avett Brothers () are a folk-rock band from Concord, North Carolina. The band is made up of two brothers, Scott Avett and Seth Avett, who play the banjo and guitar respectively, and Bob Crawford who plays the stand-up bass. They are often joined on tour by cellist Joe Kwon. Risen from the ashes of Seth and Scott’s former rock band Nemo, the Avett Brothers combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk, and ragtime to produce a sound described by the San Francisco Chronicle as having the “heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones.

Retribution Gospel Choir: Y’all know how much I love a driving rythm! (from Lala.com & Wiki:) is a band based out of Duluth, MN that plays short, driving songs that often start out poppy melodic and then turn into psychedelic improvisations and drum and bass-heavy dub. Current members of the band include, Alan Sparhawk (guitar, vocals, sampler), Steve Garrington (bass), whom are both also in the band Low, and Eric Pollard (drums, vocals). Until 2008, Matt Livingston played bass for the band.
