I'm just a fat gal with a blog and an opinion. Well, lots of opinions.

Wow! A fantastic online friend (and someone whom I greatly admire) shared this link on their facebook and I immediately went to the print page and grabbed my full sheets of sticker paper and printed out two of ’em! Woot!

From their site:

Rim Notes Recovery is a take-back-the-toilet style project. Messages of hope and healing, and empowering queries are posted on the rims of toilets on campus, at work, and at home. The message is hidden from view until someone lifts the seat. Thus the messages are aimed at a particular moment, usually solitary and isolating, when an individual goes to purge.

Toilets (with notes)

Let’s all do something positive and leave messages for people in public restrooms. Certainly the last place I’d look for a positive message, but every bit helps, I’m sure!

Back in the day, a friend of mine and I would carry sharpie pens with us everywhere so that when we were in a public restroom we would write this on the stall wall, “There’s No Diva Like Me!” I don’t know what our overall intentions were at the time, but I can’t help but think that someone, somewhere saw our little sassy message and thought to themselves, “Yeah! There is no diva like me!”

Share the link above and lets help people, together!

Okay, C’mon! This Is Pretty Cool!

This is a Sink Positive (http://sinkpositive.com/site/home/) Check it out:

An upgrade for the classic toilet! Sweet! And it saves water and encourages more hand washing?

You know I’m all about this! Anything to get the masses to wash their hands after wiping their asses!

I love it! Finally, the reality of the reality programming that is the trash on television these days. I personally have never watched the show and generally shun all reality tv. Yet I was very interested in this telling about “The Biggest Loser.”

“…Never Wanted Me to Die”

June7

This article has me fully upset:

http://www.thatsfit.com/2010/05/31/how-newly-single-shelley-slimmed-down/?icid=main|main|dl6|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thatsfit.com%2F2010%2F05%2F31%2Fhow-newly-single-shelley-slimmed-down%2F

Basically, this woman lost 60lbs after her divorce. There’s a before & after pic, no biggie. What struck me was this bit:

Breaking Point: In September of 2009, I realized that I was ready to get out and date again, but I knew I had to make some big changes before I could re-enter the dating pool. My son also made the comment to me that struck a chord: He told me that he never wanted me to die. That was it — I knew I had to do something.

Okay, seriously? You’re going to die! We all are! How nuts is this? If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, I would imagine that you grasp the fact that I am fat and am a part of the ever so popular fat acceptance movement and believe in HAES (Heath At Every Size). To read this lady’s story and that specific quote just made me angry. I mean, no kid wants their parents to die. No one wants to die (generally speaking). Yet somehow that is what pushed her towards her weight loss goals? Ugh!

I’m disappointed in this story. She doesn’t mention health. She mentions all of the things that create unhealthful habits: calorie counting, food journals and another cliche: shopping! WTF?! Look, if she’s happy, great. I get it! We all wanna be happy, but sometimes, some of us, we’re happy the way we are! Anyone can be, but when the world tells you that you don’t fit in or look a certain way, well, if you buy into that I can understand how burdensome that can feel. Yet I managed to break free of that vicious cycle. A lot of fats have. Health should have been her focus, dammit and while I know it’s her perogotive to do what she wants (I fully support the choice), I just wish her weight loss wasn’t the focus of the story.

I truly wanted to read a story about a woman who got through a divorce, found herself worth and decided to simply live better. You don’t have to get all obsessive about food and weight loss and all of that. You can enjoy your life and have fun doing it all and maybe you’ll lose weight, too. If your body wants it, it will happen. But seriously?

Ugh! Okay, I have nothing more to say on this…die

Gavin & Stacey: Great Show, Fat Friendly & Down Right Fun!

May27

I only just now finished watching the last episode of season three of Gavin & Stacey and what can I say?
I’m all verklempt! It’s so good! I love all of the characters. There’s not one I dislike or doesn’t fit. The writing is good.
I have to say though that what I love most is the simple fact that the show features fat people in a non-humiliating or poking fun at way. I love “Nessa” & “Smithy!” “Nessa” just might be my fictional heroine! My would-be alter-ego, perhaps? I just love her! And “Smithy” is just the cutest thing! I know the show is called “Gavin & Stacey” but if it weren’t for their respective best friends, “Nessa” & “Smithy” the show just wouldn’t work. It’s brilliant and charming and you just get sucked right in. Luckily the seasons are only 6 or so episodes long and only 30 minutes each at that. Just Lovely!

Haven’t heard of “Gavin & Stacey?” Well, it’s on BBC America or you can watch it online, here:
