Still, My Favorite 80’s Song!
December9
I had some brilliant post idea and then completely forgot it. Ugh! So, instead I’d like to share my fave 80’s song! I will hopefully post my very first podcast tomorrow, but we’ll see. No promises. Enjoy:
Did you know that the record label wanted to hire a “face band” for Romeo Void because they were concerned about the frontwoman’s size? They thought they’d never be popular because everyone wanted to see a “pretty, thin, white girl” on stage.
(Oh, VH1, I learn great things from your “let’s reunite the bands!” shows.)
Yes! I hadn’t seen the show you mentioned (well, not that episode, I saw the one with Dramarama, ha!) but I had heard this before. Such a disgrace! I love that song, that band and of course, the singer! I believe she’s local, too. <3
Coooool!
I always loved Debora Iyall, and she used ta wuz from SF. I am so going to date myself by talking about seeing her perform, but she was great onstage. I won’t go into details about a mosh pit incident where my friend got kinda whomped on, but she was very cool about it, even when he was all embarrassed. She was Just really, really high energy and fun, but nice, too.
I knew she was an artist, but had no idea what had happened with her. I had only seen some cover art on albums. Apparently, she is now teaching and sounds like she is putting out some very positive stuff in the community.
And played some gigs last April.

The work of hers I liked best was pretty dark and dreamlike. There was a song on the “It’s a Condition” album called white sweater that really spoke to me at the time, I heard later it’s about her sister’s suicide. Still a great song, though.
Thanks for mentioning her. I always forget her when I think of fierce fatties, and that ain’t right.
Wow! That is too cool! No judgment here, just envy that you saw them live! Makes me wonder what other secret radness you’re holding back?!
You are too cute! I don’t think there’s any secret radness…just the fact that I am a little oooold and from the Bay Area. But yes, I do consider myself lucky to have had my formative fat years in a really good punk scene in SF. You never know when it’s actually happening, but that was a really special creative time to be coming into the world at large.
Oh! Have we met in person? I don’t recognize your screen name other than from comments. I live in the Bay Area as well. I truly wish I had known about punk music and that way thinking and creating long before I did. I spent far too much time and energy on New Kids On The Block and garbage like that…I hold true to my forever-love for Salt ‘N Pepa, but then dove into the bubble gum pop and later meta…I did spend a bunch of my teens on the Haight, wishing it was 1967! Ha-ha! But hey, life/age holds no boundaries for love and music and art. We should meet up sometime! =0)
Man, your favourite 80’s song is so much cooler than mine. Even though I was into a lot of indie stuff, my favourite song is as cheesy and commercial as they come!
Great song and great piece of inspiration.
Oh stop! All 80’s music is gorgeously cheesy! I love it all! So, what’s your fave song? I must know now! =0)
Oh Sherrie by Steve Perry.
Yeah, well, you asked!
Oh wow! Ha-ha! That’s great!
