Rad Fatty Alert: Guillermo Del Toro
So I DVR The Daily Show & The Colbert Report. I don’t watch every single episode, but try to. Last night I was catching up on the previous evening’s shows and was elated to see Guillermo Del Toro! I am a huge fan of his films and hadn’t previously seen an interview with him. My husband and I were both delighted by him. He’s a genius director/filmmaker and well, a rad fatty over all! Check it out:

We were holding our sides in! It was such a great interview. When Colbert says, “Very excited to have you on here, I’m a giant fan…” and Guillermo Del Toro says, “Thank you, I’m a giant guest.” I couldn’t believe my ears! He’s unapologetically & publicly fat! Fuck yeah! I also think he’s handsome as hell. Did I mention a genius, too? Ha-ha! I love him so much, I might just have to snag up those books…I mean, non-sparkly vampires? Predators, even? Yes, please! And somehow Colbert didn’t go the low-brow route with some fat-guy jokes, he did make one about “we’re shooting this in IMAX” but I genuinely thought that that was funny and didn’t see it as a negative. Hmmm…am I being too forgiving? I was perhaps dazzled by Guillermo Del Toro’s comment, but damn! I can’t help it. He’s just so awesome!

I was truly annoyed by the fact that the chair was way too small for del Toro–the entire time he’s propped half in and half out and the absolute second they are finished he jumps up, not I imagine because he’s in a hurry, but because it was so uncomfortable. I read those jokes as indicators of his discomfort in the chair–you know make fun of it before anyone else does. It really pissed me off. Like they couldn’t have gotten a chair that didn’t have arms or that was bigger.
Oh no! How did I not catch this? I didn’t see where he jumped out of the chair, probably fast forwarding before the commercials began. Well, now I’m bummed. I had thought this a positive and light post. I’m sorry.
Don’t be sorry!! It’s just my take. Plus, even if I am right, del Toro is *still* a rad fatty. 🙂
Okay, thanks. And YES! He IS a mega-rad Fatty, for sure! <3
I loved this. Del Toro is an awesome person (for being an awesome fat, but also because I’m a major monster-freak, and he ALWAYS has the best monsters). And Colbert totally could have made fat jokes but took the high road, he seemed to have a lot of respect for him (which Del Toro deserves, of course). AND he sincerely seemed very excited to see him. IMO, Colbert totally slipped out of character multiple times in that interview. It was great.
Yeah, that’s what I thought, too. I mean, his movies are so good! His monsters too real at times. Colbert out of character? Guess we’ll never know, but I think you’re right! =0)
[…] reading a quick page of my latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, I caught a fantastic quote from Rad Fatty Guillermo Del Toro. You see, this issue was a big ole recap of last weekend’s Comic Con from San Diego. Guillermo […]
