Oooooooh the fatshions!!! So many fatshions! I could talk day and night about the lovely things I saw this past weekend. I mean, wow! I had packed my favorite Eshakti dresses because I knew I wanted to feel my very best and for me that meant looking my best, too. I even wore make up like erry’day! Ha! I enjoyed it a lot and well, I’m still  glowing from the compliments.
Fatshion lesson 1: A $5.99 headband (example below) will get you attention, compliments and many great bargain fatshion conversations! Woo!
All of those fatshion rules? Psshht! Ha-ha! A laugh! Seriously! I saw every fatshion rule broken, beaten and incinerated! And everyone looked FABULOUS!!! From evening gowns to sequins and lace, swimsuits and fatkinis and everyone, it seemed, brought their A-game and didn’t give a thought to, “Does this make me look fat?” Ha-ha!
Fatshion lesson 2: COLORS!!! Bright, shiny, neon and more…fatties who don’t fear colors prove that fatshion should never be a chore!
The vendor fair was a real treat! Bertha of Size Queen was there with all of her handmade gorgeousness!!! I cannot even tell you how much awesome she had on display! I mean, shiny-sparkly-fatty-booty shorts?! And then this happened:
Muthafuckin’ pink and white striped bloomers, yo! I love them! I have a whole photo shoot idea in mind now. I just need a lacy parasol! Ha-ha! (The “top” is a dress I was wearing…see below.) Bertha uses vintage sheets to make these babies and they are so soft and comfortable and whimsical! I’m in love!
Fatshion lesson 3: When in doubt, rock out with your fatness out!
(This is the headband I’m referring to above…and a painting of an ear canal or old timey ear trumpet?)
You see, I no longer hide, minimize, control or go for “flattering” (FUCK FLATTERING!!!), I just go with what feels right. To quote Little Edie Beale, “This is the best thing to wear for today, you understand. Because I don’t like women in skirts and the best thing is to wear pantyhose or some pants under a short skirt, I think. Then you have the pants under the skirt and then you can pull the stockings up over the pants underneath the skirt. And you can always take off the skirt and use it as a cape. So I think this is the best costume for today.“Â If you feel awesome, you will look awesome, period!
Fatshion lesson 4: accessories are everything! Let it sparkle! Let it shine! Let your feathers and flowers dazzle as you dine! (Why am I rhyming?)
I saw and even wore some amazing accessories this weekend. I hardly did a thing without my teggings on (even bought another black pair while there), but what others were wearing was what truly blew me away and inspired me! Jeanette bought this incredible green sparkly crystal rose ring that was to die for from Jewels of Miehana. I also won a gorgeous rose bracelet from them in the raffle Friday night which everyone said was “so you!” Ha-ha!
Other lovely vendors at the NAAFA vendor fair included: Big on Batik, Annalogy, Astarte Woman by Design, Beadjoux, Big Babez Boutique, ChunkEBusiness, Rogerswear, Courageous Art, Marita Fowler  and a longtime fave of mine (and Fatty Affair supporter/vendor…this is who sells Marilyn’s Yay! Scales) VolutuArt! I do hope that you support them if you can. I only wish my income/savings matched my desire to be draped and smothered in all of their beautiful things!
Oh! And then there was a fatshion show and auction! I wish I had photos to share or even links right now, but sadly I do not. Some of the dresses modeled were absolutely breathtaking! There were some bidding wars during the auction that proved to be very entertaining and fun, too. It was wonderful to attend a fashion show with models of size, color and a range of ages, too. They modeled everything from club and evening wear to lingerie and swimsuits! It was lovely! A special shout out to Tigress and her FFE Models! I know you worked very hard to put this together right and Y’all rocked it!
Your enthusiasm is just jumping out of the screen!:=) Wish there had been some pics from the fatshion show too, though.
