I'm just a fat gal with a blog and an opinion. Well, lots of opinions.

There’s A Little “LSP” In All Of Us

July1

(“Nice” King: Finn, get rid of her
Finn: What” No, man!
“Nice” King: She’s too loud and lumpy. I like smooth princesses. Smooooooth.
Lumpy Space Princess: I can be smooth. Finn, punch out my lumps!
Finn: What?
Lumpy Space Princess: I can be whatever he wants! I can change!
Finn: I can’t punch a princess!
“Nice” King: Ah! Finn! Just punch her! Let me see whats he looks like smooooooth.
Lumpy Space Princess: Yes! Hit me! Hit me! Hit me!
Finn: I’m sorry Lumpy Space Princess, I just can’t punch you.
Lumpy Space Princess: Are you serious? Fine. I’ll do it myself! *punches self*
Finn: Princess, No!
“Nice” King: Wait a minute “nice knight”, let’s see what she can do.
Lumpy Space Princess: There! How’s that? Better?)

Is there a more perfect demonstration of what we will do in order to fit in or to be desired or to please others? I can’t think of one. Lumpy Space Princess (or LSP to close friends), is a royal teenager in Lumpy Space. She is full of hot-tempered insecurity and emotions. She will at one moment tell you how lumping awesome she is and in a beat put herself down and try to conform to the smooth-er society. *sigh*

I have been just like LSP. She represents so much of my teenage years, for sure. (And not just how she talks! ha-ha!) And who hasn’t tried to be something they are not? I know I towed the line between good girl and bad in high school, at one point having two entirely separate groups of friends who never or rarely met. And there have been a few times in my life, like right now, where I feel like I am living two or three separate lives at once! It definitely seems to me that this is also what LSP is living with. If she weren’t, you know, like, a cartoon! Ha-ha!

I wonder how an LSP or other such teenage person would react to someone in their lives telling them how lumping awesome they are everyday or how they are perfect just as they are and that there is no need to try to beat up on their bodies to fit into some mythological ideal. To encourage someone to embrace their lumps, bumps, hair, stretch marks, fat, and everything else is to encourage positivity and individualism! And just think of all that could be accomplished if so many weren’t so distracted by self-hate?

Wow. That made me so sad. I know it’s a cartoon but I could relate to LSP so much. I’ve said, “I can be whatever he wants! I can change!” I’ve figuratively and literally beaten my own body because it doesn’t look the way it’s “supposed” to look. And as embracing of the FA/SA movement as I am trying to be, I still have many days when I look at myself with anger, sadness…hate. Every day I make a decision to love and accept myself but it’s not every day easy yet. I’m in process – as we all are – but I wish I was farther (further?) along in that process. I wish I was happier with my body and my life. I wish happiness came more easily to me.

Whoa! Didn’t mean to go there. LSP triggered something, I think. I’m going to go watch something funny. I need to defunk!

It’s okay! We all have those days. It’s not easy. If it was it wouldn’t seem such an alien concept to people. But I can assure you that it is worth every ounce of effort. You are worth it! Because you should be able to look yourself in the mirror and smile back at what you see. Maybe not every single day, but most days. You’ll get there. Don’t give up. Because let’s face it the alternative is actually more destructive and deceptive than we now know. *Hugs* Yes, watch something funny. Always improves my moods, too! =0)

Not only does the LSP hitting herself – and begging others to hit her – so that she can change to fit the pre-conceived ideas of other depress me, so does the ‘Nice King’ going around beating people up (especially women) and then insisting on how very nice he is.

    Gyahh!

Hello Lumpy Space Princesses everywhere: YOU ARE LUMPING AWESOME JUST THE WAY YOU FREAKING ARE! WHAT’S MORE, ANYONE WHO WANTS YOU TO CHANGE WHO YOU ARE BEFORE BEING SEEN WITH YOU IS NOT NICE!!!!!!!

We all deserve so very much better.

Maybe that Warehouse 13 marathon on Syfy (WHY DID YOU NIMRODS CHANGE IT FROM SCI-FI???? NOW IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE A CUTESY DIMINUTIVE FOR A SOCIAL DISEASE!!!) will help me recover my equanimity. CCH Pounder fucking rocks my world. She is one glorious gorgeous woman with a delivery that hits me right where I live.

“Nice King” is actually the “Ice King” who is evil, disguised as a nice guy so that he may find a princess to marry. His evil is pure and the episode I clipped that from shows it quickly, I promise. He is always his own downfall. But yes, poor LSP! We are all Lumping Awesome! And yeah, why on earth did they change it to SyFy?! Blegh! <3 ya!

“And there have been a few times in my life, like right now, where I feel like I am living two or three separate lives at once!” If you’re open to suggestions, I’d like to read more of your thoughts on this. It struck a cord in me.

Emily: There’s quite a few. LSP is a regular character. I’m sorry I don’t have one to share off-hand.
